Host:Do you think the US president can be a moral leader for the world?
主持人：你认为现美国总统（特朗普）能成为当今世界的精神领袖么？
Powell:I don’t know that he can do that.Because right now that is not the way that he is exactly.
鲍威尔：我不知道。毕竟他现在的做法是称不上精神领袖的。
Let me give you an example. My favorite three words in our constitution is the first three words-we the people. We the people. But recently it’s become-me the president as oppose to we the people.
我给你举个例子。美国宪法里，我最喜欢开头的四个字——“我们人民”。是的，“我们人民”！然而如今的美国宣扬的却是“总统至上”，这和过去以“我们人民”为出发点的立场是相违背的。
And you see things that should not have been happening.How can a president of the United States get up and say that the media is the enemy of our Americans?Has he read the first amendment?
同时，你发现美国发生了很多本不该发生的事情。一位美国总统怎么能够当众宣布“新闻媒体是我们美国人民的敌人。”呢？他究竟有没有研读过美国宪法的第一修正案？
You are not supposed to like everything the press,what anyone says in the first amendment. That’s why we have the first amendment, to protect that kind of speech.
第一修正案规定的很明白——你不需要完全相信新闻报道，也不需要完全相信媒体言论。我们之所以出台第一修正案，就是为了保护新闻媒体的发言权啊。
So if we keep doing things like this,increasing additional fissures in our society. It’s not going to save us well on the international stage.
如果我们继续这样下去，刻意无端生事。美国社会在世界舞台上恐怕都要没有立足之地了。
I hope the president can come to the realization that he should really stop insulting people.
And I used this two years ago when I said that I could not vote for him in the 2016’s election.And why?
我希望特朗普能够意识到这一点，并且能够不再轻易羞辱他人。我在两年前进行总统选举时就说过，我绝对不会把票投给特朗普。为什么呢？
He insulted everybody, insulted the Africa-Americans, insulted the women, insulted the immigrants. He insulted our best friend around the world.He insulted all of his fellow candidates up on the stage during the debates
他羞辱身边的每个人。他侮辱非裔美国人、羞辱妇女、欺辱移民。他甚至还在总统竞选辩论中多次辱骂其它候选人。
And I don’t think that’s what should be coming out of a president in the United States.But I didn’t see anything has changed in the last two years.
我认为这种事情不应该发生在美国总统的身上。尽管我们都觉得这样不对，可这两年来特朗普似乎一直都是我行我素，没什么变化。
