The paper studies self-assessment of student interpreters by using the CAIT online learning platform, which is designed with the theories of educational psychology and cognitive theory. Three types of cognitive tools-which are conceptual, procedural and strategic tools-are designed into the CAIT platform to support student interpreter’s cognitive process. Questionnaires are used to obtain student interpreters’ opinion on the efficiency of the special design of the three cognitive tools. Comparison before and after using the CAIT tools of each student and also between students are carried out to study the changes of student interpreters. Content analysis is accepted to study the characteristics of self-assessment. The results of questionnaires show the CAIT methods with three cognitive tools take an active role in improving student interpreters’ self-assessment competency. It also shows that the process of students’ self-assessment with the CAIT tool is a continuous development and improvement which is from ignorance to release, and later to a natural condition. The comparison indicates that the CAIT tools are effective in improving student interpreters’ interpreting skills and they are also the continuous positive motivation in self-training. Content analysis finds that the characteristics of these self-assessments are focus on self-efficacy acquisition, interpreting quality-standards based skill recognition, application of interpreting strategies and psychological control. In addition, the results indicate that teacher’s feedback on students’ self-assessment takes a great role of guiding students' training and promoting students’ self-assessment ability.
