Darkest thing on Earth helps see into space

Sherly

"It is so black, it seems like a mistake"

All these things might look black, and we might even call them black, but actually they are not true black

But this, this is closer to true black than anything in the planet, and it’s revolutionize anything from space exploration to architecture.

"It is hard to understand that blackest black in the world, it means that you hear it, it makes senses, and you think you can conceptualize it, but seeing it is something that very very different. "

"It is so black that it change the dimensionality of objects. It’s not a color, it’s the absence of the color, so it is what happened when you have no light reflected back to the viewer. You see nothing, so your brain print it as black ."

It looks like a paint ,but actually it makes up of microscopic carbon nanotubes, which are grown in the lab just outside of London.

It is made from individual carbon nanotubes, and those carbon nanotubes are like very very long blades of grass.

And imagine if you are him who walking through the grass of Eiffel Tower, how little light would get down to you?

It is kind of like that but on the very very tiny scale.

"It’s pretty much like a black hole ".

That’s an interesting comparison, because this material is helping scientists peer deeper into the heavens than ever before.

Acting a bit like lens hood of cameras, vantablack basically prevents lens flares in powerful telescope.

Reducing the stray light allows us to see some of the faintest and most distance objects in the universe.

So the closer we get to achieving absolute black, the more we are able to explore the blackness above

But space isn’t the only frontier, artists, designers and musicians want to get their hands on vantablack.

Asif Khan is covering a building in vantablack for the 2018 Olympics
“when people look at this building , they will see a sort of schism in space, it will be like that you are looking into the night sky , and in fact we create some stars filled within the blackness, so it will be like a Milky Way, but you will see it in a broad daylight "

The ability of vantablack is to really make us think more about the light we have access to, it got the ability to make us realize what a precious resource it is.
